Find myself openly stating that I am loving more and more of the Middle East.  Love it in the way you admire forgotten and misunderstood things:  wanting to explain away the beauty that lies underneath the confusion.  And it is beautiful and it is unfortunate and at the same time, bursting at the seams of culture, heritage and a story all its own.

This is a great story and one that conveys most of what can and should be said of Afghanistan:  it is more than what we think it is.  There are lives that make it come alive, that make it breathe, make it human enough to touch and understand.

I cried when I read this book and at that point I was only half-way through.  Cried because it is vivid, reaching all senses and even the core of my senses:  motherhood.  An excellent read, I hope it is made into a movie.
